“I can’t believe that you have a stone that grants wishes. I mean look,” Jon’s new best friend Jonah gestured at the tree in the commons with the blue branch. “No one even thinks it's weird. Like it’s always been blue. Wait, hold on.”
Oh fuck. Jon was already starting to regret this as Jonah waved down a passing male student. “Hey, do you know when or why the branch on that tree is blue?” Jon tried to hold back his cringe, he was seriously asking a random person such a stupid question.
“You don’t know? The founder of this school built the campus around it because he thought it was good luck.” The student looked around as if looking for a savior before sighing and saying, “Look, google it or something I have to get to class.”
Jonah turned back to Jon as the student walked away, waiting for him to get out of earshot before bursting into laughter. “Holy shit, people think it's always been here!”
“It is pretty weird. But do you have to accost random people?” Jon replied, looking around to see if anyone had noticed the interaction with the random student.
“Come on Jon loosen up. We could do anything. Think of the possibilities!” Jonah proclaimed, wonder and excitement on his face.
“I think I regret telling you about it.”
“Seriously, I’ll change your mind. Give me the stone.” Jonah demanded, holding out his hand for the stone.
Jon stood up and backed up, holding the stone close to his chest. “No way. You’re going to do something rash and stupid. Like, wish that every woman in the world wants to fuck you.”
“I wouldn’t do that. Every woman in the world is a bit much. I probably wish that Sarah and your enemy Karyn wanted to fuck me.”
“What is wrong with you,” Jon said backing up more, Jonah following.
“Okay, I won’t wish that either. Just give me the stone. You won’t regret it. I promise.”
“No!”
Jonah lunged for the stone, knocking Jon onto the ground. It didn’t take but a moment for Jon to realize he no longer had the stone in his hand. Standing over him, Jonah held the stone up like a trophy.
“Give it back.”
“No!” Jonah said, doing a bad imitation of Jon’s voice.
Seeing no other solution, Jon lunged up, making a grab for the stone. Only for Jonah to step out of the way causing him to tumble back onto the grass. People were starting to watch.
As Jon pulled himself up Jonah was already speaking, “I wish-”
“No!” Jon was too far away he wouldn’t get to Jonah in time. He could only watch as Jonah finished his wish with:
