"For tonight, let's just stay here. We need to talk before the moons affect us."

"Hmm? What's wrong?

Jon told her.

Karyn gibbered. "What?! How could you do this?"

"You were the one who started it," he reminded her.

"And you fooled me into diving with you in the first place!"

Jon paced the cabin, about to snap back that he hadn't "fooled" anyone, and that they'd only gone to the Land of Things That Disappear because Karyn zapped him there while he was pulling weeds far, far away. Instead he went to the icechest and tossed Karyn a soda, then opened one for himself and raised it towards her.

Reluctantly, she touched the can to his and drank. "To ill-advised wishes!" They sat at the table, where their guidebook stood open to an illustration of an unnamed cave.

"Yeah. So what's a good wish?"

"For us or the world?"

"Both. Actually..." Jon scratched one brown ear. "I'm not sure I want to cancel all this. Maybe we should live with the consequences once in a while. We could stay here and... my God, raise a family."

Karyn stared at him. Outside the window, the sunset light faded and the twin moons rose. She looked in that direction and began speaking quickly. "Look, Jon, it's not that I'd hate that, but we can't stay here alone. We'd drive each other nuts. I wish we could let everyone see this place and come here."

Both of them skipped a breath, until they realized that the stone was safely locked away for once. Jon said, "Maybe something like that wish is worth making." Seeing that Karyn now clutched the armrests of her chair, digging little clawmarks in the wood, he added, "I'll leave if the moons are getting to you."

She shook her head and went to the boat's railing, looking down into the water. "Let's go together. We'll decide whether to invite the world here in the morning."
