"Looks like you took it out with no time at all." John said relieved, stepping out of the bushes.
Carol deactivated her garbs and returned to 'normal', shrugging restfully. "Ain't nothing to it."
A shadow danced nearby and giggled. As if emerging from the darkness, a wispy, elegant small figure appeared, with unnaturally pale and course skin a china doll might possess, looking like a child in perfectly poised Lolita getup. She wasn't even a full foot tall, and yet approached them, giving a gentle curtsey. "Wha?"
Before John could finish, it lunged right at him, revealing rows of sharp teeth and claws. Nearing inches from his face, Carol waved her hands and a motion of light bounced it back and shattered it into pieces.
"What, what was that?" John asked.
"Underlings. The Familiars grow and birth them, like spores or lil changelings almost. It's fine, it's only the two of us so they cannot oversoul anyone.
"They?" John inflected.
With the sound of dozens of murmuring giggling children, a crowd of dainty, pretty identical mini doll-ladies surrounded them.
"Stay behind me, they cannot use me afterall." Carol readied herself.
