“Familiars or catbois?” asked Trevor.
“Aren’t they the same thing?” replied Jon, confused.
“Not as such,” replied Damian “All catbois are familiars, but not all familiars are catbois. The three of us are the only catbois in school currently, but there are some non-catbois.”
“But we don’t interact with them as familiars much,” added Trevor.
“Why not?”
The emo and the goth glanced at eachother, wondering where to begin.
“Each familiars is bound to a witch,” said Damian.
“For example you’re bound to your sister, I’m bound to my cousin Athena and Day is bound to his half-sister, Xenia,” elaborated Trevor.
“And each witch is in a coven,” continued Damian.
“And the coven’s don’t get along that well,” nodded Trevor “Think of it being like how the regular school is divided into cliques with each clique having their own grudges against others, and working with others and so on.”
“Wait, so there’s loads of witches here?” gasped Jon. “And why does that stop familiars being friends?”
“I wouldn’t say loads,” replied Damian, scratching his head.
“Maybe three or four covens and a handful of independents,” added Trevor thoughtfully.
“And they each transformed some guy that pissed them off into their familiars?”
“Not exactly,” sighed Trevor awkwardly.
“We, umm...” winced Damian “We’ve all always been familiars, even you Jon.”
“I think I would have noticed the tail sooner.”
“Every familiar is born with a curse that makes them ‘normal’.”
“And our mistresses just break the curse and reveal our true nature.”
Jon’s jaw dropped, blown away by the revelation. Shaking his head he said, “All that still doesn’t answer my question about it stopping us being friends with other familiars.”
“Politics basically,” replied Trevor “If our mistresses don’t get along we don’t generally get much chance to interact so tend not to get to know each other. We don’t even know who is a familiar outside our coven most of the time.”
“Shame though,” nodded Damian “Wish there was some way we could interact with them as familiars.”
Jon swallowed, wondering if he should reveal the stone to them. Could they be trusted to not tell their mistresses about it?
