The following morning Karen’s boobs felt a little uncomfortable. She knew that she wasn’t supposed to get her period for another 2 weeks so it didn’t seem like they should be swollen and tender, but they felt that way anyway. She decided it must have something to do with her wish from yesterday.
By the time she got to school it had become a mild annoyance. She asked Jon if he had brought the rock but he hadn’t so she would have to wait until they got back to his house before she could even wish to know why her boobs felt off.
By forth period they had started to hurt slightly and Karen was getting annoyed.
Sixth period PE turned out to be a relief and a shock. She was dreading putting on a sports bra and trying to jog or jump. Fortunately, a reprieve came from the governor, or more accurately the PE teacher. A note had been sent from her doctor’s office excusing her from PE for the next 3 to 6 months. She would be reassigned to a study hall as soon as one could be found. She spent the rest of the period on the bleachers wondering what was going on but too afraid to ask anybody. After all, if there was a problem with her boobs, she would know about it and remember it as far as anyone else was concerned.
By the time school let out she grabbed Jon’s hand and started to pull him quickly toward his house before realizing that moving in this awkward way made her boobs feel even weirder.
When they finally made it to his house she was plainly uncomfortable. Her boobs reminded her of the time she had gotten stung by a bee on the back of her hand and her whole hand had swollen up. Touching it with her other hand felt like a well inflated water balloon but from the inside it felt like a single pin prick would completely pop her hand. Now her boobs felt the same way, and she was tired of it.
After saying ‘Hello’ to Jon’s mom they went upstairs to Jon’s room to get the stone. After cautioning her to not make any more sudden or poorly thought out wishes, Jon gave Karen the stone.
