“Hey Jon-boy, bouncing back okay?” grinned Karyn, bounding into the room, “Oh Hadashi-Sensei, wasn’t expecting to see you here.”
“That’s alright Karyn, I was just making a house call,” smiled Rin-kun “I was about to get going soon anyway - want to have chat with Jon’s dad, so I’ll leave you two in peace.” He patted me on the shoulder with a smile and nodded farewell to both of us.
Karyn dropped into his vacant seat and pulled something from her bag. “Sorry for not getting here sooner, called into get you this on the way.”
“Thanks Kar,” I grinned, taking the box of chocolates from her.
“So what’s this bombshell you wanna drop?”
I swallowed, again wondering if I should tell her everything, but decided to stick to my original plan. “Turns out I’m a kemonomimi,” I replied, pointing to the white tufts of fur on top of my head.
“Wow? Really?”
“Yep,” I nodded.
“But both your parents are human aren’t they? Or are you adopted? Is that the real bombshell?”
I considered telling her about what my dad had told me regarding my bio-mom, but thought it best to avoid the questions that’d just bring up. “Yes, no and no. According to my dad and Hadashi-Sensei you can be a kemonomimi and have human parents; it’s to do with recessive genes.”
“So kemonomimi are recessive genes?”
“Sounds like it. Dad says he thinks there was a fox kemonomimi in my family line somewhere, so he thinks I’m going to be a fox.”
“Oh like Damian?”
“Yeah,” I blushed. “Actually that’s another bombshell.” She looked at me quizzicly and I continued “He’s, umm, he’s kinda sorta my boyfriend now.”
“Wait what?”
I blushed “Yeah we’ve arranged our first date for tomorrow.”
I could swear I saw something sad flash in her eyes, but then it was gone and she smiled, giving me a hug. “I’m happy for you Jon.”
“Thank you,” I hugged back.
