Jon was nervous for the rest of the evening. He’d stashed the mysterious collar in his secret hiding spot along with the stone, worried about what his family would say if they’d found it or seen him holding it. Apart from that the rest of the evening was fairly normal. Just before bed he checked his phone for any texts and saw one from Karyn.
Reading it over, he breathed a sigh of relief. When he’d make the wish to cancel school the next day it hadn’t occurred to him that Karyn would probably have wanted to come over and use the stone and he wasn’t sure how he’d be able to explain his plans with Damian and why he wanted to do that with him rather than hang with her. Fortunately she had a cousin who was getting married in a few months and Karyn’s mother had insisted the two of them go dress shopping for it tomorrow. He was also relieved that Karyn hadn’t thought to ask him to wish her up a dress so she wouldn’t have to go, and he hoped she wouldn’t think of it until it was too late. With nothing else for it he turned in.
Like the evening, next morning was pretty much the same as usual, although all through his morning shower and breakfast he was paranoid that his mother would accidentally find his hiding place and the collar. Fortunately laundry day wasn’t until the next day, so she had no reason to go into his room, so everything was as he’d left it. He tossed the collar and stone into his bag and then, after a moment’s thought tossed in some manga and dvds so if his parents asked where he was going and he told them to hang out at a friend’s he’d have some plausible deniability for taking a backpack with him.
