“Hmm,” replied Karyn, “How about a little game?”
“What sort of game?” asked Jon cautiously.
“How about we each make one change to the other and see who can guess first what’s changed?”
“What if neither of us can guess?”
“Hmm, set a time limit? We have, say, five minutes to figure it out?”
Jon nodded and said “Why don’t we make it interesting?”
“Interesting how?”
“If we can’t guess, then we have to keep the change for the remainder of the week. Like, if you gave me bright pink hair and I didn’t guess, I’ll have to spend the rest of the week with pink hair.”
“Sounds fun,” giggled Karyn “And how about if we guess correctly we get to make a free change to the other one and that person has to stick with it for the same time?”
Jon paused, a bit worried at the possibilities, “Sure. But let’s lay down some ground rules first. Like no turning the other one into a pet - whatever change we make it must be something that won’t stop the other one from being able to play.”
Karyn nodded and added “And it’s gotta be something that won’t stop us from wanting to play; like if I made you think you were Sarah you wouldn’t want to play, you’d just storm on out.”
They continued discussing things until they’d hammered out a set of guidelines they were both happy with. Jon pulled a coin from his pocket. “Heads or tails for who gets changed first?” He asked, flipping the coin.
“Tails,” replied Karyn. The coin raced through the air, bounced three times on Jon’s desk and landed...
