Mikey, shocked to discover that he had suddenly been turned into a girl by a magic necklace, gave a startled scream.
Mrs. Diver rushed back into the room and looked around to see what was the matter. "What happened? Mika? Why were you screaming?"
"Sorry mom." Krista said. "She thought she saw a spider."
"Is that true?" Mrs. Diver asked Mikey.
Mikey, not knowing what else to say at the moment, simply nodded his head.
Mrs. Diver, apparently satisfied with the answer, again left the room.
Immediately the girls all started asking questions at once. "How did that happen?", "Why didn't your mom notice?", "Is he really a girl?"
Krista calmed them all down and started to explain what was going on. "I found this necklace at the church rummage sale last month. The old lady that sold it to me said it was magic and would turn a boy into a girl or a girl into a boy. All they had to do was wear the necklace and their body would change. If they take it off they'll change back."
Hearing this Mikey started to take the necklace off but Krista stopped him saying "Wait until I'm done explaining before you do anything." Somewhat reluctantly, Mikey let the necklace fall back into place around his neck.
"Now where was I..? Oh right: If they take it off they'll change back. Anybody that didn't see the change won't realize that they changed at all and will think that they have always been the way they are. That's why my mom didn't think it was weird that you are a girl now. All of that I know is true since I've tried it out on myself before. The old lady said that there was one more rule, but I haven't tried that one out because it is scary to think about: If the necklace is worn for more than a day, the change become permanent and you won't change back when the necklace is removed."
