Jon took another bite of the cheeseburger and grimaced. "So is this another of those changes to my psyche you were talking about? Making me not like hamburgers?"
"Well, we can't have our superhero spilling out of her suit, can we?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with mirth.
Jon was about to respond when he overheard someone behind him say, "I'm gonna need some help with the logs. I've got a lot on my plate..."
"Jon, what is it?"
"Hmm? Oh, nothing, I just heard something. Wait, did you...?"
"Oh! It works! Which keyword did you pick up on? Help? Supergirl?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, you know how you always seem to be able to hear your own name, even over a crowded room?" Jon nodded. "It's the same idea, but we added a few words that your brain is always listening for. It's not quite super-hearing, but it should help you find people in distress."
"I guess that's more useful than some of the other changes you've made," Jon said.
Just then Dr. Takeda walked up. "Jon, good to see you up and about! How do you feel?"
"Pretty good, I guess, given how many changes you all made to me."
"'Atta girl!" the man said, and Jon grimaced. "Oh, sorry. But you do have to admit, you look rather feminine at the moment."
"Yeah, I don't exactly need a reminder," Jon snapped.
"Sorry. But I'm sure you'll soon see that it was all worth it. The reason I stopped by is that I've finished calibrating the equipment in the testing chamber. Would you like to take your new powers for a spin?"
Jon licked his lips and then nodded. "Yeah, may as well." Hopefully this would all be worth it!
