"Jon, you're special," said Mr. Smith. "Do you know how many people are able to establish the neural links to control the technology we've developed?"

Jon shook his head. "One in a million. And only one in a billion has both that ability and the correct physiology to avoid side-effects from long-term exposure to the technology. You're the first person we've found who has both qualities. If you'll work for us, we'll give you powers you've only dreamed of. What do you say?"

"Okay... I'll do it!"

"Excellent! Now, it'll take a little time for you to adjust and train with the new technology. We've already contacted the school and negotiated for you to take a week off. However, there's one very important decision that we need you to make."

"What's that?"

"We can integrate the technology with your body in one of two ways. Some of it, such as the freeze-breath generator, must be surgically implanted. However, we could also implant almost all of the technology, meaning you'd have ready access to your powers at all times. But it would mean making some noticeable physical changes to accommodate the devices."

Jon looked worried, and Mr. Smith raised a hand. "We have some excellent cosmetic surgeons, so don't worry, you won't look hideous. In fact, I'd guess you'll end up better looking than you are now! But you'd likely need to take on a new identity in your civillian form."

Jon pursed his lips. "What's the other option?"

"We can build most of the devices into a suit. That means you wouldn't look much different when you're not in costume. But if there were an emergency, you would need to put on and calibrate the suit in order to respond. That could take precious time."

Jon took a deep breath, mulling over the decision. If he chose to have the technology implanted, he would lose part of his identity! But wasn't it selfish to risk not being able to help in an emergency because he wasn't in costume?

Which would he choose?
