All through school the next day, Jon was on pins and needles, waiting to find out how he'd get superpowers, and what kind of hero he'd become. Karyn asked why he was so excited, but he shrugged it off, saying he'd tell her later.
As he walked into his last period class, the teacher, Mrs. Watson, told him that someone was here to see him and he should go to the office.
When he got there, he saw two men wearing matching black suits, along with the principal, Mr. Jeffries. Jon's heart started pounding, as he knew that this must be his wish coming true!
"Jon, this is Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones. They are here to see you about an important opportunity."
"Um, hi."
"Good afternoon, Jon," said Mr. Jones. "We're here on behalf of the Metahuman Outreach and Oversight Nexus. Also known as 'MOON Labs'."
Mr. Smith said, "We have been running some statistical analysis of your school performance, and believe you have some great potential. We'd like to offer you a full scholarship to a college of your choice."
The principal beamed. "This is a great opportunity for you, Jon!"
Jon knew it was likely the wish, but he didn't want to seem too eager. "What's the catch?"
"This is part of an experiment to help identify outstanding young people. However, we need to verify the results. We'll need to collect some data from you and bring you to our lab for a full workup."
Jon looked at the two men, pondering what his next move should be. Well, no point delaying the inevitable (or the wished-for), he supposed.
"Okay, I'm in."
