Sunday, July 23, 4:25PM, 2000AD.

The news was broken to me earlier that day, my paternal grandfather had died. He had just come back from an expedition to an undisclosed location. Then, died of a heart attack shortly upon his return.

Being retired gave him lots of time, and money. His estate was almost auctioned off to pay for the families debts, that was until his will was found. It was found behind a painting in his living room, luckily that was the first place my family tried to clean out.

In it was only a few names. Such as: "All my cars are to be given to my son (my father)" and, "My only brother shall receive any collectibles he desires from the first floor." When I heard this I imagined it in his high, only slightly raspy voice, still full of youthful energy even after more than 70 years. Pretty much exactly what you might imagine the most stereotypical grandpa to sound like.

Besides that, his siblings and children had almost no occurrence. But then, it moved onto his grandchildren, which he then left much more for. "My remaining estate will go to my first born grandson once he is of age [21 years]." These words took me by surprise, such being as I was his first born grandson, and 21 years wasn't too far off.

That was pretty much the end of it, omitting any legal jabber.

Then, I remembered the rock.

Back when I was about 8, my grandfather was taking a short break from traveling. Something his children and siblings forced him to do since he never used his manor sized house. Of course, it was just a ploy for everyone to come over.

While there, he told me behind his bed frame was a small wooden box. And when he died, I could go there, and have whatever's inside.

Of course, I checked there's no secrets of any sort behind his bed. If there was I would have found it. But now that he actually was dead, I decided to check again.

My entire family, including all my cousins, had gone to check out his house. They were looking around to see if there was still anything of value they could sell, that didn't void the will. My cousins were still pretty upset about me getting the house, so I was able to slip away easily.

Sure enough, in his room on the second floor, I easily moved his bed. Probably because I was a lot stronger now. Stupid eight year old me.

Right out of view was a hole in the wall, inside it I found a box with a small metallic rock and a note. You know what happened after that.

After returning home, nothing changed, except for the fact that I was a few years off from becoming rich. Like, set for life rich. No one really knew what my grandpa did before he retired. Hmm? Could the stone actually be the reason behind his wealth? But that was a story for later.
