It seemed like nothing happened.
Jon, in Sarah's body, said "Karyn, it's not what you think. I need the stone."
Karyn yelled to Sarah, who still believed she was Jon, "Jon, help me get the
stone from Sarah."
"What stone?" replied 'Jon'.
"Huh?" said Karyn. "I just mentioned it again a second ago! Did you do
something to him, Sarah?"
"Of course not!" yelled 'Sarah'. I'm Jon, I'm in Sarah's body. We swapped.
He just thinks he's me. But he's really Sarah."
Hearing the strange story, Karyn let 'Sarah' go, but kept hold of the stone.
There was an easy way for her to settle the whole thing. "I don't believe
you. I wish you'd tell me the truth about this."
"It's just what I told you" answered 'Sarah'. "I'm Jon. Sarah tried to steal
the stone from me. I ended up swapping with her. As far as I know, I have to
take the history test for him before we can change back. Since he's really
Sarah, when you wished I didn't know about the stone, it affected him, not me.
He just forgot what little bits you told him about it now. It didn't do much
at all. And that's the truth."
"What are you talking about?" said 'Jon'. "Sarah thinks she's me and I'm her?"
Karyn could hardly believe it. If 'Jon' was Sarah, he looked and sounded
exactly like Jon did. But what 'Sarah' had said had to be the truth. Maybe
there was some way she could fix this up. She couldn't directly reverse a
previous wish, but she could cause the previous wish to be true in a different
way.
"I wish that the wish for Jon to take Sarah's test was interpreted to
mean that Jon takes the test that Sarah would take right now. And since
Sarah right now now is in Jon's body and would be taking Jon's test, that
means that Jon and Sarah will swap back so Jon takes his own test."
Jon, in Sarah's body, was starting to say "Karyn, I need to fix it with...."
And Karyn's wish worked. "... that stone" he finished in his usual male
voice, as his body was suddenly his own and Sarah's was Sarah's again.
"I don't believe it!" said Sarah. "I'm a girl!"
"Of course you're a girl, Sarah" said Karyn.
"But you just made a wish on that stone," she answered. "It must be a cursed
stone. You said 'proper bodies', but it reversed that and took me out of my
proper body instead."
"Oh no...." Karyn realized just what had happened. She'd reversed the wish
for Jon and Sarah to swap bodies, but she hadn't reversed the wish for Sarah
to think she was Jon. So while Sarah was now in her correct body, she
thought she was Jon in Sarah's body.
"Go ahead" said the real Jon. "Reverse the other wish too, Karyn. If I
want any revenge, we can do that later."
"Okay, Jon" said Karyn. "I wish that Sarah will now think that she's Sarah
again, and no longer believe she's Jon trapped in Sarah's body."
"What did you do that for, Karyn?" said Sarah. "Why would I want to be Sarah?"
"Of course" said Karyn. "I can't directly reverse a previous wish. Let me
try something close." She thought a minute. "This may take some time" she
said. "Jon," she said to Sarah, "please trust me on this."
And Sarah, acting like Jon would, did trust her and didn't interrupt the wish.
"I wish" said Karyn, "that Sarah will know on an intellectual level that
Sarah was transformed into her, but that she will still know what Jon knows
and think and act as if she's Jon in Sarah's body. I also wish that she knows
enough of the things Sarah knows that she can pass for Sarah if she wants to.
Finally, I wish that me, the real Jon, and she all be close friends, that she
bears no resentment against either of us for using the wishing stone on her,
and that she enjoys being Jon in Sarah's body and wants to stay that way."
Nothing visible changed.
"That's it?" said Sarah.
"I hope so" said Karyn. "How do you feel, Sarah?"
"I don't know. It feels strange to be called Sarah. I mean, I know that
I'm in Sarah's body, but I'm not Sarah any more."
"So you're still me?" asked Jon.
"Of course I am. We're both the same person, except I'm a girl."
Jon decided to try something. Exactly how much like him was Sarah? "If
you're me, then let's go to my house and you can show me what you look like
naked."
"Jon!" yelled Karyn. "You wouldn't!"
"She's right," replied Sarah, "we both know that this body is really hot, but
do you know how embarrassing that would be?"
"But when I was in your body I looked at it. You're me, so why won't you let
me look at it too?"
"Give me a break. You'd show your body to yourself if there's one of you.
You wouldn't do it if there were two of you and the other one was ogling you.
So what makes you think I would?"
"I suppose" said Jon. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"Of course" replied Sarah. "I just have a few things to do as Sarah first.
We can get together to work on that history test later."
Sarah was Jon now. She couldn't bring herself to do all the things that Sarah
would. She began dropping hints to her admirers that she liked other people.
The hard part was letting them down easily and making sure they weren't
jealous.
She had no trouble pretending to be Sarah--she was really grateful to Karyn
for making that wish. Sarah's parents had noticed absolutely nothing unusual.
She missed being with her own family, Jon's family, but she so enjoyed being
in Sarah's body that she didn't really mind.
Sarah got her textbook and notes and went over to Jon's place. But as she
went she couldn't help but think--Jon really did want to see her naked. Jon
was not only the best of friends, Jon was herself. How could she refuse a
request like that?
Jon let Sarah in and they went to his room. Then Sarah said "You know, Jon,
I've been thinking... you really wanted to see me naked, right? Why don't I
show you...?" She began to strip.
