...we're our own parents. We hadn't always been Jon and Karyn. A long, long time ago, I'd been a girl named Linda Meadows and Karyn had been my best friend Leslie Blake. I had been given the stone by my father for safe keeping while he was off on his archeological expeditions. The two of us had had much fun with the stone as we had grown up, gotten married and had kids. Shortly after I had given birth to my youngest child, Mikey, Leslie and I had made a silly wish and we'd found ourselves as Richard Gibson and David Black.
We'd grown up once more as best friends and in our teens met and fell in love with two girls - Linda Meadows and Leslie Blake. Even though we knew that the girls were our past selves, we also knew they ended up marrying us, so had accepted fate and gone along with it, careful to not tell our past selves about what they'd end up doing. When they'd wished themselves back in time, we'd used the stone to wish up duplicates who were exactly the same, save for their memories of the stone. I'd then revealed the truth to my father(-in-law) and he'd been happy for us to keep the stone. And we did, for five years before a slip of the tongue sent us back in time once more. I had become my eldest son Jon, while David had become his daughter Karyn.
I'd forgotten all about the stone and our past lives until I'd inherited it from my grandfather(/father/father-in-law). Touching the stone had brought back my memories, almost overwhelming me, but I'd managed. When I'd shown Karyn the sone earlier, I thought that it would have returned her memories, but apparently it hadn't.
I stared at my phone contemplating. Should I tell her the truth?
