"Thanks Auntie Wanda!" Leonard chirped as he gave a pirouette, showing off the little black dress his mother had just complimented. It was probably a little dressy for a family dinner, but the former boy wanted to go all out for his first one as Kelsey. He'd spent an hour watching youtube tutorials to get his makeup just right, and picked out a dress and pumps that just made him look fantastic. The extended Drullers-Vanderfield clan got together for family dinners at least once a month at the insistence of Leonard's grandmother, Leslie Vanderfield. Leslie was the mother of Leonard's mother, Wanda, and Kelsey's stepfather Gerald, along with his aunt Olivia and uncle Casey. Kelsey had been adopted into the family when Gerald married her mother Regina, and quickly became the golden child amongst their generation.
"Well dear you look wonderful in anything, but it's nice to see someone making an effort to look their best, unlike some people I could mention," Leonard's mom replied while giving the side eye to Kelsey in Leonard's old body. The boy looked a little crestfallen to have their usual positions reversed. Serves him right, Leonard thought as he smiled and took his seat at the table. Dinner progressed with most of the table none the wiser to the change that had happened between two of their members, but Leonard was having a delightful time. When his C in physical education was brought up he couldn't help chiming in, "You know Lenny, I'd be happy to share some workout tips with you after dinner." He said it with Kelsey's sweetest tone, but was secretly delighting in being the fit one for once. (He also hated the nickname Lenny, but since the real Kelsey never bothered to remember that, he wouldn't either.)
"You should listen to your cousin, she's a true athlete, you know," Grandma Leslie chimed in, making Leonard beam with pride, despite the fact that he'd never played a game of volleyball in his life. Well, give it time, with a little training and muscle memory I'm sure to dominate the court. Kelsey just stubbornly continued to eat her mashed potatoes, wishing for this nightmare to end. For once she was glad for the massive portions Aunt Wanda served at these things, since she felt like she was always hungry in this body.
Kyla was pacing Tiffany's room deep in thought. In many ways, today had been even better than yesterday, as she was feeling more confident as Tiffany. Cheer practice had gone off with far fewer mistakes than they'd made at the rally, and the whole day she'd been riding the high of finally being one of the popular kids. The only hiccup she'd hit was oddly enough regarding the thing she'd been most excited about when she'd first woken up as Tiff, Jay Duncan.
She knew her longtime crush had his own crush on the platinum bombshell she now inhabited, and had planned to make her initial approach today when they both had study hall. It had started well enough, sauntering up to the boy, her new hips swaying, lips pursed and pouty, but then something had happened. As soon as Jay looked up at her all red faced and began blubbering, she felt her attraction for him begin to ... diminish. It wasn't that she felt guilty about the attraction being nominally for Tiffany and not for her old Kyla body; as far as she was concerned, the gods had made some divine reversal of fate, and she was Tiffany for the time being. It was more that Jay just seemed so wimpy and unimpressive to her now.
Maybe the only reason you had a crush on Jay, was because subconsciously you thought he was the only boy or girl you had a chance of going out with, trying to go for someone in your league so to speak the former nerd reasoned to herself. Of course now she was in an entirely different league, she thought as she ran her hands down her toned body. She was in the freaking World Series, and Jay was decidedly not.
So what, do I go after Steve Farber or something? Kyla thought with disgust, sticking her tongue out at the notion of hooking up with Tiffany's on again off again boyfriend, who she was thankfully off again with for the moment. Steve was handsome sure, but also a massive idiot and jerk, not exactly what she was looking for in a romantic partner. And she was looking for a romantic partner; she had no clue how long she'd have the opportunity of being Tiffany Sanders and she didn't want to waste it.
Finally the thought struck her. There was someone she'd had a longtime crush on, even before Jay, who she'd basically forsworn the possibility of ever actually getting together with. It'd be harder than Jay, since her other crush wasn't already head over heels for Tiffany, and in fact wasn't on the best terms with her, but for once Kyla was relishing the challenge. She felt her face warming up at the thought, and began to sort through Tiffany's extensive closet, looking for just the right outfit to introduce the new Tiffany with. Karyn wouldn't know what hit her.
"What workout tips could you give me?" Kelsey snarked as Leonard joined her in his old room after dinner. Leonard raised his hands placatingly, "I just needed an excuse to touch base after dinner, cousin," he might be enjoying their role reversal a little too much, but he needed to keep Kelsey on his side, so she could help coach him through his impersonation. "How'd your day go?"
Kelsey snorted, "It was whatever, highschool sucks." That had decidedly not been her opinion when she was actually in highschool, but back then she'd also been a star athlete and prom queen, not an overweight nerd at the bottom of the social hierarchy. "What about you?"
Leonard absently ran a hand through his glossy dark hair as he daintily sat on the edge of the bed, "Classes went just fine, and I made sure to take rigorous notes. Did you notice we have the handwriting to go with our bodies? Anyways, lunch with Emiko was actually a lot of fun. I stuck mostly to the topics you outlined for me and I don't think she suspected anything was off." That was mostly true, although he had veered into conversation about an anime he really liked, but Emiko hadn't seemed to mind. He'd just gotten so carried away at the experience of spending time with an actual, proper friend that he'd lost himself a bit in the moment.
"Oh, good," Kelsey replied. She was glad Leonard wasn't embarrassing her, but a bit miffed that her friend couldn't tell something was up. Leonard smiled his brilliant white teeth, "Don't worry, until we figure out what happened, your life is in good hands."
