Tuesday. Another day at school, Keisha fretted.
It went the same. Get up at 6:30. Wait for Samantha to shower before she got in. Take a quick shower. Put on a nice top, do her makeup... It don't matter to the bullies how I look, she mused, pausing a minute to remember the wishing stone she received yesterday. At least until now. She looked at her curly hair before heading down the hall.
While in the hallway of their small apartment, she glanced quickly at the family portrait of Momma Casey, Keisha, Samantha and their older sister Ramona, the first in their family to go off to college. It was a few years old but they hadn't changed much. Her older sister was confident and proud. Samantha and herself, however, had been stymied by the guy bullies who ruled the school like it was their fiefdom. Football was their holy act, and they only took the weakest and "easiest" girls to be cheerleaders. They didn't take Samantha. A couple of years ago, they refused Keisha. And they refused to let either one of them forget it.
That's gonna change today. She got her backpack ready, and at the last minute, she threw the new wishing stone into her bag.
It's time to put those bullies back in their place.
