As someone who still liked sci-fi, it occurred to Jon that the stone could be used to wish for things that existed only in movies and TV shows.

And that could solve his girl problems without being as questionable as controlling someone's mind.

"I wish there is such a thing as a robot girl who looks human. I wish I was on a team to create the first...." Jon realized that he had spoken half a sentence in a voice of the wrong pitch, but managed to end it without taking a breath. "... one programmed to like me."

Nothing happened. Jon looked at himself and needless to say, had turned into a girl. "I wish I knew what was going on." Nothing. "I wish for a book to appear explaining what's going on." Nothing. "I wish for a ham sandwich." Nothing.

Then Jon tried to check his email for details and realized that he was seeing some sort of data connection in his mind. Don't tell me, he thought. It couldn't have turned me into a female robot.

Eventually Jon found a hatch in his chest, opened by sticking a finger in his belly button. Opening it showed a bewildering array of circuit boards supported in a plastic matrix. He also discovered that he weighed around 220 pounds, which a woman his size should not have weighed.

It also seemed that the stone didn't work. At all. His best guess was that robots are machines, and can't make wishes. The first wish made him into a robot girl, and once he was one, he couldn't make any more wishes. Fortunately, he still seemed to have a room, separate from other people's, and which contained possessions. That placed a limit on how bad his situation was--he didn't seem to be property, for instance, unless he had just escaped a lab and was in hiding.

Jon wondered if the stone belonged to someone else in this new reality. At least in the new reality it was still here. Maybe Jon still owned it and just had to tell other people to use it, but that only raised the question of how many other people knew. Anyway, it didn't seem there was any way for Jon to change back before his roommates came back.

But he wasn't Jon right now, but Jonni....
