Roger whistled to himself as he turned the last corner into his neighborhood. He knew he could have simply wished himself home, but lately, he seemed to have so much more energy than usual. Even his mood had improved!
While he hated to admit it to himself, losing his sister had been the best thing to happen to him. Oh, he loved Sarah, he felt, as much as a brother should. However, her loss had given him a new sense of purpose.
When Roger reached his house, he was surprised when he found someone seated on the front steps, waiting for him.
"Karyn? What are you doing here?"
The blonde girl shrugged. "I just thought you might need some help."
"Help? How so?"
"Well, I know I haven't really been on friendly terms with you before, but I couldn't just let things go without trying to fix what Jon did to you. You see, I've had some experience with that rock, and I figured, if we put our heads together, we can find a way to bring your sister back. It's the least I can do."
Roger considered the unexpected offer. Karyn really was a decent person after all. Perhaps keeping her close would not be such a bad idea.
Letting some of his regret show in his face, Roger settled down beside her. "You know as well as I do that it's hopeless. Wishes can't be undone."
Karyn put a sympathetic hand on his shoulder. "But we have to try. Wouldn't you give anything to have your sister back?"
He paused for a bit before answering. "Uh, I guess so."
