Finding Karyn was Jon's top priority, as he left Roger's office. Knowing that classes started in ten minutes, Jon sprinted to the Chemistry lab where Karyn was having class first today. Jon could still feel pain aching from his back after his beatdown by Roger, but he tried his best to hide it as he caught Karyn before she walked into the classroom. Karyn heard Jon's wheezing and walked towards him.
"Hey Jon-boy," Karyn said inquisitively. "What seems to be the rush?"
"Everything I feared is happening today Karyn." Jon spat out as he tried to regain his composure. "Roger is going to call you into his office to make some wish on you."
"He is? How do you know this."
"Because he told me himself. He said after he makes his wish on you , he's going to turn his attention to me and try to make me kill myself from the sheer pressure he will place on me."
"But why would Roger do that? You two have no history together at all."
"We can't worry about his motivations right now when we are both in danger. I know that you may not have a choice when it comes to going into his office, but you may be able to prevent yourself from changing.
"Are you saying I should beat him up?"
"I already tried that, it didn't work." Jon considered showing Karyn his back, but decided against it. "Just don't do what he asks. If he wants you to read something, don't. If he wants you to talk about yourself, don't."
"All right then. I'll do my best to outsmart him Jon, but if I fail please don't try to save me. If he succeeds then you need to get out of town. Get out of the rock's range. Maybe you might be able to find another rock or something."
"I'll be sure to do that Karyn. Please be safe."
The two parted ways, as they rushed inside to their classrooms a few minutes before classes started. For the rest of the day things were pretty ordinary for Jon other than the noticeable changes already made to the student body either by him or Roger. As Jon started to think Roger was bluffing about getting Karyn before the day was over, the intercom came on with a message that froze Jon's heart.
"Karyn Black please report to Roger McMillan's office. Karyn Black report to the office immediately."
Jon considered jumping out of class to stop Roger, but he decided to stay seated. Karyn has always been a clever person, and Jon had enough faith in her to know that she would be difficult to trick into being changed.
