Travis spent the rest of the day being the receptionist at his former insurance agency. When his former assistant turned current boss Barbara wasn't looking, he snuck in some Boogle searches to try to figure out what was going on.
It turns out the reason it was "normal" for a man to have more than one wife was that males only made up 10% of the human population! Nine out of every ten babies born were female now and it had been that way since caveman days. The many women of this world "shared" the few men in polygamous marriages, but it was the women who ran the show, not the man. Travis soon learned that women DOMINATED society in general. As 90% of the population they had formed civilization, government, social rules, etc etc. In fact men were not allowed to vote, drive, or own businesses! The only reason Wonkipedia gave was "Males have a duty to society to father and raise the children of women. The business of the world is the responsibility of women."
Travis looked at the photo of his new "family" over and over throughout the day. He needed to know what he was getting into, so he wished to know more about each of his new wives.
Trisha had been his first wife. They had been dating in high school and got married right before she went to college so that Travis could legally stay with her on campus. Her history was mostly the same except now instead of being a medical secretary, she had a medical degree and was an aspiring doctor. She held a residency at the local hospital.
The blonde woman was named Sarah. She had been the second wife. She owned a salon on the east side of town, it was where Trisha had met her and eventually introduced her to Travis as someone he might be interested in dating. Travis "remembered" going on a lot of dates alone with Sarah and that his wife Trisha had not been jealous at all. To her and all other women it was very normal to share men. Sarah was very smart, however she still had a few "blonde moments" from time to time. She had the best sense of humor of all the five wives.
The third wife was the young looking Asian woman who was named Mia. She had joined the group just two years ago. Trisha had met her in med school, and like Trisha she was a resident at the hospital. Travis wasn't that into Mia at first when Trisha introduced him to her, she had a rather bossy personality. However, she was a tiger in bed and was willing to do things his other two wives were not! Travis soon agreed to add her to his growing harem.
Travis's fourth wife was Sophia. She was indeed of Italian descent. This time it was Travis who had first met this woman. He had been at an Estate Farm holiday party when Sophia had taken an interest in him. Like him, she was an assistant at an Estate Farm agency. They had gone on a few dates and hit it off when Travis brought her home to meet his other wives. At the time Trisha, Sarah and Mia were reluctant to add another wife to the group. However men had one solitary freedom in this world, they were free to marry whomever they chose, women had to "share" men after all! Women for the most part accepted men's small and specific power as "cornerstones" of families. Sophia has since been accepted by the group.
Finally there was Destiny, the African American woman who had become Travis's fifth wife. At 26 she was the oldest of Travis's wives. Travis's four wives met Destiny while they had been at a local bar one night about two months after Travis and Sophia's wedding. They were celebrating Mia's birthday when Destiny walked up and started a conversation with Sarah. Sarah had done Destiny's nails at the salon the week prior and she had questions about how to maintain the finish. Liquor helped moved the conversations along and Destiny was soon partying along with the group and everyone had a GREAT evening and a not so great following morning.. Several times after that Destiny also joined the group of four women as they went out to the local wineries, to a play, and to a holiday shopping trip to the Crabtree Valley mall. The four women got along so well with their new friend that they decided to see if Travis would be willing to add her to the group officially. They invited her along on a family trip to Myrtle Beach, and they had clearly told her to show an interest in Travis. Luckily Travis got along with Destiny as easily as they had and sure enough Destiny was part of the group. Travis knew from his wish that Destiny was employed as a manager at a clothing store at the Crabtree mall.
Eventually Travis's workday as receptionist came to an end. Going outside he of course did NOT find his car as men were not allowed to drive. Luckily he soon saw Sarah pull up to pick him up. Even though Travis had wished to know more about his family's history, this was actually the first time he was really meeting his wife Sarah. On the way home he tried to play along with the conversation not letting on this was all mostly new to him. Then Sarah asked him, "Well, did you put in your notice?"
Travis just asked, "What?"
Sarah sighed and said, "Travis, honey, Sophia will be delivering her baby any time now, we all agreed you could get that job to get you out of the house during the day and give you something to do, but now that you're going to be a father it's time to start doing your fatherly duties. Now that Destiny's pregnant too you need to accept your role is going to be stay at home dad. The five of us wives make more than enough to support our family, you don't need to work anyway."
The fact that TWO of his wives were pregnant was news to Travis, the stone had granted him knowledge about the wives and how they met, but apparently not their current medical status and such.
Sarah soon arrived at Travis's new home, a large house on the southwest side of town. Looking around the neighborhood all the houses were quite large, probably because families were larger in size and fewer in number than before.
Once inside a very pregnant Sophia waddled up to give her husband Travis a quick hug and kiss. Looking at his new wife's swollen belly, Travis knew his life was going to be very different from now on...
