"I... I don't know!" said Leo. "It's showing this video of him in this history TV program..."
"I don't think it's a program," said Michelle. "I don't know how this could happen and they hadn't invented TV long ago... but it's too real, and there's no way someone could have made a video about him. It's him! Something's happened to our son."
On the "video", Brandon had gotten older and his face seemed strange. He had gotten older but now he was getting younger again. No, wait... it wasn't younger. It only seemed that way because the boy was first getting older, which would make his boyish face masculine, but he was turning into a woman, and his face had started to get more feminine, not younger. Meanwhile the clothes were more and more obviously some kind of dress.
"Lord Brandon?" said the other woman. "Lady Brenda, surely you must have an opinion." It had changed mid-sentence! She had gone from calling him Brandon to calling him Brenda and nobody had noticed!
At this point Brandon's age was almost thirty. The clothes that covered his entire body included a dress and his waist was narrow. His breasts were barely visible but there was no question that he had become a woman. His parents wondered when this would end. They had to do something... get Brandon back before he aged to death, if he even remembered his parents any more.
Finally, they looked at each other and each hesitated, until Michelle said "We have to go. When I say three, okay?"
"Right," replied Leo.
"One..." said Michelle. "Two... Three!" They both leaped into the machine at once. Of course this had no effect; then Leo saw the start button and pressed it. In a flash of light, they both vanished and appeared in the middle of the street. A horse was coming straight at them and they ran for the curb.
"It worked, somehow," said Leo.
"I don't see Brandon here," said Michelle, "not even Brandon with those changes."
"I know," said Leo. "The video showed him in a clothing store. There should be one around here. If we go there we can find him."
They looked across the street, which was very strange considering its narrowness, the lack of asphalt, and the smell of smoke and horse excrement. There was a store some distance away that could have been it, but it was hard to tell. Finally both of them headed off towards it.
But they were already starting to transform. Jon continued to watch, wondering if they would find Brandon, and if they would still be related to him when they did. Although even if they were, there were many ways to be related to someone.
