The change was sudden. One moment, Mikey was dressed in a plain gray T-shirt and pajama bottoms, then he was wearing an outfit that Jon might usually wear - a T-shirt and jeans, but it was all tailored to fit Mikey's smaller body.
What the wand did was take Jon's suppressed personality and lifestyle (the one displaced by Mikey's original personality and lifestyle) and gave it to Mikey, because Jon was the only person in close proximity to Mikey, other than Zoe. But Zoe was holding the wand, so she couldn't be affected.
"Hey, Zoe," Mikey said pleasantly. "What's up?" He looked at the wand in Zoe's hand, then grabbed it from her. "Zoe, I know you think you're more responsible than me, because you're older and in high school, but I don't think I can really 100% trust you with my wand."
"Your wand?"
"Yeah. It appeared in my room, so it's mine. Listen, I know I let you use the stone before, but that was different. We knew how the stone worked. But this wand ... I still don't know what it does. Except turn our mom into a Goth, and turn you into ... wait a minute! What am I doing here, eating cereal? Mom is out there somewhere. We have to find her," Mikey said, jumping out of his chair and sprinting towards the front door. He then turned back around. "Zoe, come on," he urged.
"What about school?"
"This is way more important than school," Mikey said.
"Then what about Jon?" she asked, gesturing towards him.
Mikey looked over and saw his older brother. Right now, he was sitting in front of the TV watching cartoons. Mikey sighed. "Jon, maybe you should come with us. We can't leave you here alone."
Jon whined. "Do I have to? I'm watching ..."
"Come on, Jon. This is important."
