Over 3000 years ago, the population of the world was considerably lower. In what is now known as South America there was an incredible city ruled by a series of wise, elected rulers. This society gained its wealth and easy living through a network of Power Stones.
These stones were linked with a source of power beyond understanding and allowed the user to change certain things about the world around them, within the limitations of that stone's influence. These stones merely changed what their power was directed at, and reality itself remained intact.
For generations the people flourished, their understanding of the world grew and the Power Stones became more and more important to them as a society. It was at this time that their most loved ruler yet sought to increase the power of the stones.
In an unprecedented event, all of the Power Stones were brought to the palace, and the ruler and his top wise men gathered to perform a ritual, a ritual that would merge the Power Stones into one single stone, a stone that would have the power to change the very fabric of reality itself, rewriting history with the combined power of their entire civilisation.
The ritual was a complete success, and once it was done they were left with a single stone, which now lay on the centre of the table. This stone led the civilisation into a golden age.
However, such power will always corrupt the hearts of men, and the power to change reality itself proved too much of a temptation for one of the wise men. He wrested control of the stone from the ruler, and started using the stone for his own means. The subsequent power unleashed upon the world brought the civilisation to its end, and the stone remained lost for thousands of years, until recently.
