Jon grunted, then left his sister's "lab". As he walked back upstairs, however, he stopped suddenly when he heard a loud crash sound. He turned around and ran back to his sister's lab.
"Zoe?" Jon shouted out. With all the smoke filling the room, it was hard to see if Zoe was still in there or not.
Then he heard someone coughing and a figure's silhouette moving within the smoke. "I'm right here." Then there was more coughing.
Jon reached out and grabbed his sister, then pulled her out of the room. "What happened?"
Zoe collapsed onto the floor, gasping for breath. Her "super nose" obviously couldn't deal with the stink of the smoke. Jon himself couldn't smell the smoke at all. If he hadn't heard that crash, he probably wouldn't even have noticed that there was smoke at all, let alone something burning.
