Jon's body (and it was just Jon's body, because his spirit was still talking to his grandfather just outside his bedroom at his house) turned and grunted. Then it crawled out of the casket and sniffed the air.
"Jon?!" his mother yelled.
Jon's body turned towards the sound of the voice and looked directly at her. Drool dripped from the corner of its mouth, as it looked on with bloodshot eyes.
Then it pounced, making contact with her in a split second. One moment, she was shaking at the sight of her dead son standing not ten feet from her, the next, she was being nearly ripped apart. And after only a half a minute, she was dead.
Zoe screamed at what she witnessed. But she screamed even louder as she saw her dead mother stand up and limp towards her. Her mother had the same look in her eyes as her dead brother. "Mom?" she asked, with a shaky voice.
Her mother just grunted, moving closer to her, drool and blood dripping from her mouth.
As hard as it was to believe, somehow her brother had become a zombie. And now her mother had too.
