A flash of light. A blaring noise. Darkness. Light. Color. Jon's senses were overwhelmed with sensations that he had and had never felt before. Some of the sensations he couldn't even explain or describe. Then he saw something he knew. It was Karyn. She looked sad. It's because of me, he thought. Jon was thought. That's all he was now. He had killed himself over the grief of what the stone showed him could happen if he used it. He thought no one would miss him. But he saw that he was wrong. Karyn missed him. His mom and his brother missed him. Even Zoe missed him. And there were even more people ... people he barely knew. Neighbors, fellow students. Without even realizing it, he had friends that he didn't even know about. They were just too shy to get any closer to him. What had he done?
Karyn? he thought, looking at her. Her image floated in front of him. But he soon realized that she wasn't floating in front of him, but rather the other way around. He looked around himself and saw the indescribable colorful-yet-not limbo take on a more familiar look. He was in the parking lot outside of the funeral home. He was only a few blocks from his house. He passed this place every time he walked to school with Karyn.
Karyn, I'm here, he thought. But, of course, she couldn't hear him. And Jon soon realized why. He was a ghost.
