The stone flashed, but when their vision cleared, nothing around them appeared to have changed. That is, until Karyn glanced at Jon's poster.
"Jon! Look at your poster!"
He looked. Where once there had been a skinny man with stylish hair outside a blue police box, there now sat a completely different poster. Where the poster had once read "Doctor Who," it now read -
"Nightshade? What's Nightshade?"
Jon shrugged. "Dunno. Must be what Doctor Who's replaced with now that the Doctor really exists in real life."
They stared at the poster in silence a moment, both wondering what else could have changed in their lives. Their silence was interrupted, however, with a growl from Jon's stomach, followed shortly by a growl from Karyn's own stomach.
"Looks like we could both do with something to eat," said Karyn.
Jon nodded. "Yeah, I could do with a bite. It'll be a while before the Doctor shows up, I think. Besides, I want to see if the wish changed anything else."
They stood, stretching their aching limbs. Jon carefully placed the wishing stone back in its box and slipped it under his bed. He noticed Karyn's curious stare. "I don't want to carry it around with me all the time. What if I make some stupid wish by accident or something?"
"You did just say we might need the stone in case something goes wrong with your last wish, though," Karyn pointed out. "What if Burger King gets invaded by the Slitheen?"
Jon laughed. "I doubt that'd happen. Still..."
He pulled the stone back out from under his bed.
"I wish no aliens will invade our town while me and Karyn are out." The stone flashed and Jon stuffed it back in its box and under the bed. "Now, c'mon! I'm starving!"
The two friends left, shutting the door behind them. A short while later, a car engine started and faded into the distance. Then, everything was as still as the grave.
