"Maybe," said Karyn. "Let's go outside...."She stood up and stepped over to the door, but was suddenly interrupted by a sound that was familiar from the television show. The sound of the Doctor's Tardis materializing. It was much louder than on TV, because they were right next to it. She turned and Jon stared as it appeared in a corner of the room next to Jon's desk.

The doors of the blue box opened and the eleventh Doctor stuck his head out. Looking around, he noticed the poster and remarked, "Far enough into other dimensions that I only exist as a fictional character. But the energy source... the energy source..."Holding up his sonic screwdriver, he waved it in front of Jon's face, and it buzzed slightly. "By any chance are you in possession of a highly powerful reality alteration device? My Tardis has malfunctioned and it would be an essential tool in its repair... Oh, permit me to introduce myself. I'm the Doctor, though judging by that poster over there you might already be aware. Unusual experience, not having to introduce myself."

"Nice to meet you, Doctor," said Karyn. "I'm Karyn, and this is Jon, and we've been expecting you."

"Reality alteration device?" said Jon. "You mean my magic stone. I think I summoned you, or created you, or something." He held it up to the sonic screwdriver, which buzzed loudly until the Doctor put it away.

Karyn whispered, "Ssh. You can't just tell everyone about it."

"Creation?" replied the Doctor.

"Well, I wished you were here," said Jon. "And the Time Lords, and...."

"I don;'t think you created him," said Karyn. "You couldn't create Time Lords and all that stuff out of the stone's range. I think you summoned him from a parallel universe where he was already real."

"Your companion's pretty smart," said the Doctor. "The Tardis was malfunctioning and your so-called magic stone sent me a signal. It indicated that with the use of a narrow extradimensional corridor, I could travel to a world where its power was available." He looked at the stone, then held up a wallet with a card in it. "Inspector John Smith, I need to requisition your device for just a..."

Jon and Karyn broke out in laughter. "Psychic paper," said Jon. "Besides, you already introduced yourself."

"Sorry, my mistake," replied the Doctor.

"I'd be glad to use my stone to fix your Tardis," said Jon, "but just one condition...."

"Name it," said the Doctor.

"You let us travel with you. And when we want to go home you come back to this universe and drop us off at the same time we left. If our age doesn't match I can wish us younger."

"I..." The Doctor hesitated, but Jon knew that the Doctor actually liked having people travel with him. A moment later, he said "I'd be glad to!" and smiled. "But I must warn you. The phase-shift of the... well, let me just say that travel in the Tardis will interfere with your magic stone. You might be able to create some minor changes but I wouldn't rely on it to get you out of a jam until you return or you've spent at least a week without time travelling. So I would suggest doing whatever you want to do with it now."

"See?" said Jon. "It worked, Karyn. I wish that we both have rooms on the Tardis that start out as duplicates of our own rooms. Okay, now let's go!"

They stepped inside the Tardis and looked around. The phrase 'bigger on the inside' didn't exit anybody's lips. It looked almost like it did on the show, which must have meant that the timeline was a little different--either Rory and Amy had already left or else the Doctor was picking up Jon and Karyn instead of Rory and Amy. There was one difference, though: the central column wasn't lit, and a big chunk of the console was gone, replaced by a mass of wires and a few glowing tubes.

"I wish this was repaired," said Jon. They all blinked and the console was once again just as it was to anyone who watched the TV show.

"Well, that's certainly an effective repair system," said the Doctor. "I'll return to my universe now. So where would you two like to go?"

Jon gave the Doctor his answer and the Doctor fiddled with the controls. The Tardis doors closed and the Tardis dematerialized. Only then did Jon realize that while he had repaired the problem with the console, he probably should have wished to repair the chameleon circuit too....
