"Julie" sat in the back seat of the car, treating every single minute of time as a natural stall. If she could just stall until she gets home....
Finally she began to spot some familiar buildings. A far away apartment complex painted in orange, a slightly closer Wal-Mart. She was getting close. Just a little while longer... Julie closed her eyes and waited. The time passed--it didn't seem as long in hindsight--and she opened them to see the car that she was in riding down the final block. Soon they parked in the driveway.
They all entered the house to be met by Jon and Karyn and Julie gave Jon a hug, while still not quite being sure that that was right. Was that natural Julie behavior? She furtively glanced around but nobody seemed to notice anything unusual.
No, that wasn't right. Her mother did seem to notice something. Her mother frowned and looked at Karyn. She said "I can't believe you've been gone all this time and you and Karyn are still arguing."
"Mom, we're okay," she said. "But all right." She hugged Karyn, who looked slightly uncomfortable--not from the nonexistent argument with Jon's nonexistent sister, as Jon's mother had thought--but because she didn't remember anything appropriate either. "Karyn..." said Julie. "maybe Mom's right. We don't need to fight. Come on, let's all get together in our room and watch a movie or something."
"It's safe to talk," said Jon. He was sitting on the lower bunk bed and Julie on the upper directly above him, while Karyn was in a chair. "I made a wish," explained Jon. "A couple, in fact. People will just forget anything weird they see or hear in here. Also, nobody's going to do anything that would reveal that everyone outside the area doesn't know Julie. Otherwise the first time my parents call my grandparents it would give things away. None of it changes reality--I don't dare make another wish that changes reality. It's just too dangerous.
"Thanks, Jon," said Julie. "As for me, I read the diary. We had a big argument just before I left, Karyn."
"But that's silly. I don't..."
"Exactly," replied Julie. "We just need to pretend we made up."
"What was it about, anyway?"
"I borrowed some clothes from you and never returned them. They should be in a paper Macy's bag in the closet."
"I guess you're really getting into this sister stuff," said Karyn. "I'd almost believe there really is a Julie and we really did argue."
Julie laughed. "Maybe not." She grabbed the bed and pushed herself forwards. Since she was right above Jon, she fell directly onto him... except that she fell too slowly and as she fell her body began to fade away until there was only a ghostly form that fell right into Jon and disappeared. Jon was left sitting in the same place without a scratch on him.
Jon blinked a couple of times. "Okay, that's weird," he said.
"Do you remember everything?" wondered Karyn.
"Yeah, that's what makes it weird. I remember doing two different things and one of them while having breasts. It's not too bad, though."
"What about your clothes?"
"Hm?"
"You just disappeared a whole outfit. No wonder I complained about Julie taking my clothes."
"Hmm, good point. But when I became Julie the first time, 'Julie' had clothes, so I should have the same clothes the second time. Let me try something."
Jon stood up and in a second there were two people standing there. Jon, and Julie, this time wearing a complete outfit of Aeris from Final Fantasy 7. Julie posed as if trying to cast a magic spell. Then she walked towards Jon and disappeared again.
"I take that back," said Karyn. "I can't believe Julie even wanted to borrow any clothes from me. I know, I know, being able to do this is not part of reality.... So what next?"
