"You said you had an hour," explained Karyn. "Plus the time for your parents to drive to the airport. That may not be that long but it's plenty of time not to make a hasty wish. Look at what happened with just wishing a branch blue--what's going to happen if you wish to fix this and you don't get it right?

"That's the thing," said Jon. "Even a simple wish can be unpredictable when it changes the past. But one thing I can do is wish that something happens without changing the past at all. Here we go. I wish that I have the power to turn into two people and back... myself and Julie, at will, keeping all my memory and without changing the past."

Karyn and Jon had to look away for a moment, at nothing. They knew then that the wish had worked.

"That's a crazy wish." said Karyn.

"Is it?" replied Jon. "It's either be Julie, or create a Julie for real. Unless you want to be Julie and do it the same way."

"No thanks."

Jon concentrated and his figure blurred. A moment later Jon was standing there... as well as a girl who looked like she could be his sister, which was the point. She wasn't identical, but then opposite sex twins aren't supposed to be identical.

They looked at each other and then Karyn looked between them. "So you're both really Jon?"

"Yup," replied both together. "But if..."The boy stopped, letting the girl keep talking. "If I'm going to keep this up we'd better call me Julie when I'm doing this."

"Sure," said Karyn.

Jon and "Julie" then both went over to the desk and started looking for something.

"What's going on?" asked Karyn. "Something missing?"

"Yeah," said Jon. "I was going to get some stuff of Julie's and look at it on the plane. I mean I as Julie have to."

"Right," said Julie. "When I arrive I'll know a few things I need to know. I wonder if Julie keeps a diary, but if not we could wish for one."

They didn't find a diary, and eventually Jon said "I wish Julie has a diary which describes Julie's life, and which nobody else will read... and that she has it without changing any history. We have to be careful. If just making a branch blue messes up history like this, I don't want anything else to mess it up worse." It materialized in Julie's hand. "Okay, I wish Julie is on that plane with luggage checked, and that happens without changing history, but people think she belongs there."

Nothing happened.

"I wish I knew why that didn't work.... Oh." Jon handed the stone to Julie. "You try it. The plane's out of range so that wish only works if you take the stone with you."

"I wish," said Julie, "that I'm on that plane with luggage checked, without changing history, and people think I belong there. And then the stone teleports back here."

The girl disappeared, and a second later the stone reappeared.

"That's surreal," said Karyn. "I mean, you're Julie and yourself! Now what?"

"I wait until we go to the airport and pick up Julie. Then we come home. I probably want to go to sleep as one person since there's no reason to be Julie then. Then tomorrow I'm me and my sister."

"Can you do it?"

"I don't see why not. But I admit, tomorrow's going to be very interesting...."
