Karyn nodded her head to Jon as she raised her visor to reveal her hazel eyes.
Hazel eyes that now seemed tired and older. In fact Karyn was older.
The Karyn that stood before him appeared to be in her mid thirties, a few wrinkles around her eyes and a few of the strands of blonde hair that peeked out from under her helmet were grey. Instead of her thin, curvy body it was before the wish, Karyn's body was a lot taller, about 6', her arms now held more muscle than before and there was an air about her that said, she-meant-business.
Jon continued to look this woman who used to be his teenage friend, when his eyes stopped and stared at the Captain stripes on her uniform. It took a long time to get to the rank of captain, especially in the Halo Universe, if Karyn's current age had anything to say about that. Jon gulped and looked back up into the older woman's eyes, flinching at the glare she was shooting him.
Karyn was not happy.
Jon swallowed again, "Karyn, I-I can explain! I..." he began, when a fist smacked right into his face, sending him to the ground.
Jon groaned as he struggled to sit up. He could here some of the Marines that had seen him get decked by the Captain snicker to themselves. He finally made it to his knees when he noticed Karyn now leaning over him with her mouth in an angry snarl.
"Your dang right you will explain, Private! Or you will find my boot so far up your but that you will be singing 'God Save the Queen' in a tenor!" Karyn half hissed, half growled at Jon, "I have spent nineteen years, NINETEEN freakin' years fighting this war and I just knew you had something to do with it!"
Jon struggled to get his mouth to say something intelligent, when a shadow appeared over the both of them.
"Is there a problem here, Captain Black?" asked an annoyed Sergeant Major as he stood over them with his arms crossed over his chest.
Karyn glared once more at Jon, before she stood up and turned to Johnson, "No, sir! Just a disagreement between Private Madison and me, nothing more. Sorry if we have disturbed you sir!"
Johnson glanced at each in turn, then with a grunt he went back to where the medic was still trying to revive the Spartan. As he walked away, Karyn turned back to Jon and glared holes in his head.
"When we get back to base, you have a lot and I mean a lot of explaining to do! And that's an order!" she hissed and then followed after her commander, leaving a very frightened Jon staring after her.
I am so dead, when we get to Rat's Nest! Jon said to himself as he pulled himself back onto his feet. A young Marine standing near him struggled to muffle her laughter behind her gloved hand.
