After a moment's thought, Jen decided to use the direct approach. She had always considered Martin a nice guy since she first met him. Besides, he had just as much a stake in this as anyone. "Martin, I can't marry you."

The young man seemed perplexed, to say the least. "But Jen, why not?"

Jen sighed. "I'm not Jen. I'm Jon, Jessica's brother. I'm actually sixteen, and I was supposed to be an usher at the wedding. You were marrying Jessica. I didn't like wearing my tux, so I wished I wouldn't have to. But the wish turned me into the bride and and I sound crazy, don't I."

"She's been raving like this all morning," explained Jessica. "I don't know what happened. She was fine last night."

Martin looked at his future bride curiously. Keeping his eyes on Jen, he addressed the others. "Jessica. Zoe. Could you two leave us alone for a minute? Maybe I can get to the bottom of this."

"Well, I just wanted to make sure I understood exactly what you're telling me. Because frankly, it's a bit hard to accept. I mean, I don't remember a Jon in your family. I only remember you as Jennifer, the beautiful girl who captured my heart."

His attempt at a romantic statement fell flat as Jen simply ignored it. "That's the nature of the wish. If you don't hear me say it, it's like nothing's changed. You have no memory of me as Jon. No one does except me."

"I guess that's logical. It explains your sudden change in behavior. What caused this? Wishes don't just come true like this."

"It was a wishing stone."

Martin's eyes widened. "Wishing stone? Where is it? Can you use it to reverse this?"

Jen dropped her gaze. "No. It's lost. It vanished after I made my wish, and I haven't been able to find it again. Otherwise, I would've fixed everything a while ago."

The young man sighed. "Well, there's no helping it, then. This brings about some complications."

"You believe me?"

"Well
