"I wish you'd just trust me to take care of things!" Jon yelled in a panicked voice. Karyn had rarely heard such a tone from him, but knew that whatever panic Jon was feeling was eclipsed by the rage rolling through her.
The stone, of course, flashed at his words, leaving the girl momentarily stunned. Why had he wished that? Was he messing with her mind on purpose? She looked at her friend, sitting on his bed with Karyn's own mother resting her head on his knee. The image was slightly comical, the strong, sexy woman acting in total submission to a boy who had always been intimidated by her. Karyn didn't laugh, though, since she was pretty sure that her mother wouldn't appreciate being made fun of.
Now, what was she thinking about again? Oh yes, Jon screwing around with her mother! It was a good thing that Jon was such a responsible guy. If he wasn't Karyn was sure that a situation like they were in right then would turn out terribly. As it stood, Karyn was glad that she could count on such a trustworthy person to take care of things.
A smile crept onto her face as she looked at Jon, who was in turn staring back at her with a questioning look on his face. Karyn was sure that sure that whatever Jon was thinking about would turn out to be the right thing. He was just like that. Even if it took years, Karyn knew that Jon's solution for fixing her mom would be just right.
"Okay," she told him, briefly wondering why she had ever been angry, "I trust you Jon. I'm sure whatever you do will be the right thing."
Jon's look changed to one of satisfaction. Karyn was glad. The last thing she'd need on her conscience was to realize that she'd been the cause of a delay in Jon solving her mom's problem. She knew that stress was a major cause of distraction, and she didn't want to be the cause of that stress. Maybe if she made Jon's life a little easier he'd even be able to solve the problem faster!
"Don't worry," Karyn said as she climbed onto the bed behind Jon and began to massage his shoulders, "I trust you. You always take care of everything."
