Just as always, Tom Welles got to school early. As one of the football players, he had practice every day before school. It was only twenty minutes, but their coach wanted to make sure that they were all in top condition. Tom had nothing to worry about. Sure, he wasn't the star (Biff Meadows and Mike "The Moose" Matthews got the spotlight more than anyone else), but he was still one of the better players on the team and still got a fair amount of popularity from it.
As he walked towards the school, he spotted a couple of his jock friends - Danny Foster and Chris Morgan. He also spotted Biff (who was busy making out with his girlfriend Sarah McMillan) and Biff's friend Steve "The Stud" Farber (who was flirting with a couple of girls).
He waved at Danny and Chris and saw them wave back at him, and that was when something suddenly crashed to the sidewalk just a foot away from him. He looked down and saw that some of the liquid that was in the glass container was now on his legs. "Uck," he said, wondering what it was ... and wondering if he'd be able to get it off.
He looked back up at his friends, but was shocked to see them leering at him. Why the hell were they doing that? He looked towards Biff and Steve and saw that they were leering at him too. Sarah looked both confused and angry at Biff, probably wondering why he stopped kissing her.
Then Tom looked all around him and saw that all the guys were leering at him.
Why the hell are they looking at me like that?! he thought.
