Jon and Karyn took their eyes off the door and looked at each other. Karyn could see the panic in Jon's eyes, like a deer standing frozen in the middle of a road before it gets hit by a car. She had to think fast before Zoe found out. She reached over to the nightstand and grabbed the stone. Before Jon could object, she quietly whispered,
"I wish Jon and I were in my bedroom right now!"
The stone glowed as they both disappeared from Jon's room and reappeared in Karyn's room. Much to Jon's bad luck, the stone had him fall 2 feet from midair to the floor. A loud thump resonated throughout Karyn's house as Jon hit the ground.
"Karyn, why did you use that thing? That thing has been nothing but trouble!" Jon said agitated. He was still in shock from his sudden change in scenary, and him trying to rub out the aching pain in his balls contributed to his choice of words.
"Jon, I did the first thing I could think of. You didn't want Zoe to see you like this did you?"
Jon nearly said something he would of regreted. Of course he was still mad at Karyn for using his stone without his go ahead, but she did the right thing in the end."
"You're right once again Karyn. But now that we are here, wouldn't Zoe still be looking for us?"
"Good point. Perhaps we can make another wish..."
"Well..," Jon sighed heavily, "I guess if it fixes this problem, then we should do it."
Karyn nodded in agreement and began thinking of a way to word the wish. She wanted to make sure that the wish wasn't going to be permanent nor was going to effect the lives of Jon's family, like him not existing anymore. The stone's range limit also meant that it effects would have to be minimal and not create confusion among those outside the stone's range. A smile appeared on her face and she suggested,
"Jon, what if I said you were staying over at my place for the week?"
"That would work, what about your family? Won't they think it is weird that I am here?"
Karyn had to think about this one. She didn't want to make a wish that they would be ok with his condition. They may end up mentioning it to some random person and freak out. Once again, another idea emerged.
"I'll just make a wish saying that they would think it is normal for the bedroom door to be closed."
Jon was puzzled, "Karyn how is that going to help?"
Karyn explained, "Well, my parents work really late, so I generally fend for myself for food. It would make sense that I would close my door so I could take care of schoolwork or shower. And unlike your house, I do have my own bathroom, so knowbody would walk in on you."
Jon was impressed with the idea, "Well, that's a pretty clever wish Karyn. However, you did raise a good point, but what about school?"
Karyn really struggled with this one. All of those people living outside of the district couldn't be changed. She would have to find a legitmate reason for him not being there. She reluctantly said,
"How about a doctor's note saying you caught a cold? It is that time of the year and nobody would think anything was unusual. We'll even wish up a note in your mom's handwriting saying you won't be there for a week. Your sister is the only problem with this though. People would have to talk to her about you being sick, but I do not think that will happen. I'll bring the notes to school tommorrow."
Jon nodded slightly. He didn't have any better ideas and it seemed like Karyn really thought everything out. With little to lose, he said, "Ok, let's do it."
Karyn took a deep breath and clenched the stone, "I wish Jon's mom knew that Jon was staying at my house for a week and she was ok with it. I wish my parents thought my bedroom door being shut was normal. I wish I had a doctor's note saying Jon had a cold and another note in Jon's mom handwriting saying he will be absent from school for the week."
The stone glowed and the wishes took their effect.
Zoe was walking downstairs back into the kitchen where her Mom was getting out the plates. She asked her mom,
"Hey mom, I can't find Jon. He's not in his room and anywhere upstairs."
She turned around and said, "Oh Zoe, Jon is at Karyn's for the rest of the week. He'll be having dinner there," She placed the third and final plate on the table.
Zoe was confused. She sweared that he heard those two talking in his bedroom, but when she opened the door, there was nobody there. And Jon's pants and underwear were in the bathroom as well. Though she didn't hear the shower running. Maybe it did? She really didn't know, and she likely wouldn't of heard it anyways with the music playing in her room.
"Ok, then...let's eat then," Zoe pulled out her chair and began eating her dinner.
The only confirmation of Karyn's wishes were the two pieces of paper now in Karyn's other hand. Sure enough, they were the doctor's note and a note in his mom's handwriting.
"It looks like it worked," Karyn said as she put the notes down on her dresser, "We should be ok now, what should we do next?"
