Joanna tucked the flyer into her purse just as the bus it described pulled up in front of her. Going to a Carnival sounded like just the right amount of fun for a day of hooky so she boarded the nearly empty vehicle and allowed it to carry her away.
She could smell the fair before she saw it, the roasting sugar for candied apples and cotton candy .. the smell of popcorn, hot-dogs and other indulgent snacks whipped through the bus' windows... Tantalizing its passengers long before they could see the lights of the ferris wheel or the garish stripped tents. The excited sounds of laughing children and grinding mechanical music wafted after the delicious smells.
Grabbing a corndog from a nearby vendor Joanna perused the midway and the rides. Some of the attractions were vintage standbys... Others she had never heard of...
