Nikita looked into Jon's dark eyes; he was waiting expectantly for her to say something, anything. Nikita realized that Jon had given her a wonderful gift, he'd made her human.
She didn't remember anything to do with being a dog, so it could just be easier to believe Jon was lying about having a magical wishing rock or the ability to swap bodies. But the fact that Sarah looked very much like a human being, and there had never been any reported instances of a dog even remotely appearing human made Nikita believe that Jon was sincere.
It also explained why her memories conflicted with her feelings, why she remembered loving Biff, but didn't feel it. Why she felt that Jon and Karyn were her best friends, yet she treated them like crap. These weren't really things she experienced; these were memories, gifts, given to her.
But it also taunted Nikita, to know that it wasn't really her life; that she had stolen a life from Sarah, that same Sarah was the one who deserved to be here instead of Nikita. Regardless of however she tried to rationalize it, Sarah was now trapped into a form that she was not born into and one that she went to without consent. It ate at Nikita now; she almost wished Jon hadn't told her the truth.
Even though her soul was only a year old, he mind was much older; she really didn't want to wish that kind of punishment on anyone, even Sarah whom she shared the same life memories with.
"Jon", Nikita said, "Can you change Sarah back?"
Jon looked at Nikita in surprise, "Why do you ask?"
"Jon. No matter what kind of gift you gave me, it still wasn't right to take anything away from Sarah, you're better then that. I know you are. You need to do the right thing and give her back her life, even if it means returning me to the way I was", Nikita explained.
"You want me to turn you back into a dog? You would really go?"
"Jon", Nikita replied, "Even though I'm really human now, I never was to begin with, those people aren't my real parents, or boyfriend or friends, they're Sarah's. Regardless of what she did to you in the past, she does not deserve to be trapped in as a half-dog half-human freak for the rest of her life"
"Wow I thought I'd dodged the morality bullet when Karyn's memories of this whole thing were changed, but here you are"
"Here I am"
Jon scratched his head, he didn't expect this, "I really didn't expect to hear this from you Nikita. Do you want to go back to being a dog?"
"It's unimaginable. I don't know if I could, but I do know that it's not fair for me to live Sarah's life for her. Please change us back"
Jon shrugged; he did look rather upset, "I'm sorry, I can't. The wishes are irreversible, and I was quite clear on the wishes, so there's no real loophole available to exploit. At least not in the same way we did for Karyn's hair. The best I can do is amend the wishes"
Nikita was upset, but she didn't feel as bad as she expected to, "Ok, well what were your wishes then?"
"Well. I wished for her legs to be dog legs, the hair colour matches the rest of her hair. I wished she couldn't attack anyone aggressively, that she could only make dog sounds and Karyn and I could understand her sounds. She can't read or write any language and was the pet of the Gibson household", Jon explained, "In your case, I just wished that you were a human woman who could pass as Sarah's sister and took the place of Sarah in the memories of everyone who knew her"
Nikita realized that the scope of Jon's wishes did indeed seem pretty hopeless in terms of reversing them, they were quite set on what the outcome was supposed to be, "Wait, what did you mean by 'amend them'?", Nikita asked.
"Well, simply put, I can change small things on the wishes, adding conditions and whatnot to the wishes to change them slightly, but I can't reverse them outright. For example, I could wish that Sarah's real hair was pink, and so all the hair on her body would become pink because my wish was only for the hair on her legs to match that on her head. Or I could wish for someone else to be able to hear her barks and understand them since I didn't prohibit that when I made the original wish", Jon explained.
"Well", Nikita replied, "There may be a few ways around the restrictions still, if your wishes were worded that strictly"
"Oh?" Jon replied, "Do tell"
