Walking to school with Athena and Karyn was a blast. Not only were the two girls eager to please Jon in any way they could, the hung on every word he said, laughed at every joke, and complimented him on everything he did. It was quite the boost to his self-confidence.
When he got to school, though, the girls were forced by their schedules to head off to their classes, leaving Jon alone. They, of course, apologized profusely for not being able to carry his books to his first class, or give him a foot rub as he sat in his desk, but schedules are schedules.
Jon didn't mind. He'd been having fun with the girls, but what he really wanted was to see how his next conquest was doing: Sarah. Luckily, she sat right next to him in his first class.
As he walked into the classroom, his eyes met hers. A flushed look crossed her face, followed by a smile, immediately followed by a look of utter confusion. She looked down at her desk, her knuckles turning white as she stared at her textbook. Jon could only imagine the turmoil she was feeling. He'd seen the dramatic changes brought on my his dream intervention in Zoe, and now Athena and Karyn, so whatever Sarah was going through, it was intense.
Soon the teacher entered and began his lecture, something about the Magna Carta, and Jon opened his notebook to take notes, only to knock his pen onto the ground. Before he could reach for it, though, Sarah had retrieved it and was holding it out to him.
"Here, hon," she said warmly, "you dropped this."
Jon smiled at her and took the pen, only to see her eyes go wide, then quickly return to her own notebook. Jon's smile grew wider. Sarah was going to be fun.
