"Wouldn't that make us both girls?" replied Mikey.
"Hmm. Okay, let's try something different."
"What?"
"Uh, I don't know. You try something. I don't want to touch that thing any more."
"All right. Let's see... you became a girl and didn't want to be called Tomi. You want to be called Tommy instead. So I should just wish for that."
"But aren't those the same?"
"If you thought they were the same, would you ever have wished to not be called Tomi? They have to be different or you'd never have said that. How much time do we have?"
It was still too much time. They ended up playing Halo until the time expired. "Three wishes," said Mikey. "I think. How does it work, when the twelve hours are up do you get all three back, or does each wish expire separately or what?"
"How should I know?"
"Just wondering. Anyway, I wish that you're called Tommy, and if it means you're a girl with a boy's name, then it does."
They waited and nothing happened. "I don't think that worked," said Tommy.
"'Course it worked. Do your parents let you have a cell phone yet?"
"Yeah. I can play games on it but I'm only allowed to call in emergencies."
"It has your name in it somewhere. Check to see what it is."
Tommy got the phone from her pocket and checked it. It did indeed have his name on the lock screen. "Hey, you did it. Wait a minute. The name on the phone worked, but I still have earrings!"
"Silly, that's because you can wear earrings no matter what your name is."
"Then why did wishing for a name give me earrings?"
Mikey couldn't answer that. "Okay, now I wish you're allowed to wear guy things and do guy things and have guy things." This time it worked; the earrings vanished. Not that the wish prevented her from wearing earrings, but it changed history so she didn't choose to do so. "I have one more wish left and then twelve more hours. What do you think it should be?"
"Halo 9. Maybe Halo 11."
"They're not up to 11 yet."
"But you can wish it goes up to 11." Neither kid noticed the unintentional reference.
"We haven't even finished playing this one."
"And you haven't even finished fixing me."
"Come on, Tommy, I can't change you back from being a girl."
"How about...."
