In her hand, Mikey's mom (Jane) still held the coin, as she said "I wish Jon and Zoe had friends like Tomi." The coin grew warm, causing her to drop it, in surprise. She turned away and squinted, like there was something in her eyes, then she looked back just in time to see the fading light from the coin. Was it actually glowing, or was it just her imagination?
What she didn't realize was that what she wished for had actually come true. But since she was the only one that heard the wish, she would be the only one to notice that anything was different.
Also, the fact that this wish was granted meant that a new twelve-hour period was in effect. According to Mikey's inheritance letter, the magic coin could only grant three wishes for every twelve hours. So that meant that for the next twelve-or-so hours, only two more wishes could be granted.
Meanwhile, Jon was on his way to his friend Karyn's house and Zoe was on her way to her friend Athena's house, both not knowing that their friends had been changed by their mother's wish.
