"It's Derek. You know, the emo boy from school?" Jon said, sounding astonished.
"What about him?"
"He's ... Biff Meadows." Biff was the star quarterback of the high school football team and also the boyfriend of Sarah McMillan.
"What?" Karyn said, with wide eyes. "How could that be? They're nothing like each other. Biff's a strong and hot jock, and Derek ... well, Derek's an emo. They don't even look alike. Plus, don't they both have their own families?"
"I know you've seen Biff's family, but have you ever seen Derek's family?"
"No, but I barely know anything about that guy. He's a little creepy, you know."
"Exactly," Jon said, responding to the fact that Karyn didn't know much about Derek, not that he was a creepy guy. "From what the stone told me, I'm guessing that Derek doesn't even have a family. He just exists as Biff's alter ego. And now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen Biff and Derek in the same place at the same time."
"But how could that even be possible? People can't just turn into other people. And why would Biff even want to become someone like Derek anyway?"
"Karyn, the stone can make people turn into other people. It can do anything, remember? So it's possible that something else exists that can do the same thing. And why would Biff turn into Derek? Well, maybe he has no choice. Or maybe he's living out a personal fantasy. I don't know."
"Why don't you make a wish and find out?" Karyn asked.
"Oh, yeah," Jon said, feeling a little silly that he hadn't thought of that himself. "I wish I knew why and how Biff is able to become Derek Lettman."
