"What's going on?" Jon's sister Zoe asked, panicking, as she ran into Jon's bedroom. Her eyes were wide, seeing all the damage that was done to the bedroom door.
"Zoe, get out of here!" Jon yelled.
Jon's fake mother turned towards Zoe and said "He knows."
Zoe looked at Jon, then back at Jon's fake mother. "How could the human know?"
Jon's eyes went wide, as did Karyn's. "Zoe's an alien too?" he whispered. "Is there anyone who's not an alien?"
"I'm not," Karyn whispered back.
But could Jon really trust that answer? He wished he could get to the stone right now and make absolute sure. But if he made a move towards it, his fake mother might shoot him again (and this time it might not be on "stun"). Of course, if Karyn really was an alien, wouldn't the other aliens know it and maybe even expose her if they thought that Jon already knew too much? Or maybe they didn't know she was an alien. Maybe she was a nice alien. Maybe she had orders to be Jon's friend, to the end. Maybe the experiment was still happening right now. That this was the real experiment. To know how he'd react in this particular circumstance.
Or maybe Karyn was just as human as he was. He hoped so. He didn't want to mistrust his own best friend.
