Jon opened his eyes. Sally was gone. Nowhere in sight, no sound of her running, walking ... anything.
Jon could have laid back in peace and watched TV. But he didn't. He felt something was wrong. He searched the house for Sally. Surely she couldn't have gone far. She couldn't have gone anywhere. It occurred to Jon that she could have gone nowhere. To nowhere. Limbo. Like Illyana Rasputin in X-Men. Or some other hellish dimension, or a place worse than anything he could imagine.
Panicking, he reflexively dialed his mother's cell phone number. "Mom, Sally's not here!"
