"I wish my Grandfather could speak to me while still dead." John whispered as he clutched the stone in his hands. Suddenly, a bright flash from the stone blinded John momentarily, as the lights in the room all went out at once.
"Joooooohhnnnn....oooughhhhhh!!!" came a horrid cry from the darkness.
"Jooooooohnnnn!! What have you doooooone?!" it shouted again. It sounded eerily like John's grandfather, he thought.
"Who's there? Is that you grandpa?" as he stood shaking with fear in his bedroom.
What if the stone brought him back a poltergeist or worse, John thought. What if he's angry about what I did to him? John just wanted his grandpa back to life again so he could ask him about the stone and what to do with it. But now he may have brought the dead back from the other side in some horrible way. The stone was really literal with its wishes and it may have removed his grandpa from his slumber without his consent.
"Jooooooohn..." it moaned loudly. Suddenly the lights started to flicker and then they all came at once, but slowly grew in intensity until they were just about to burst from too much power flowing into them.
Then it all stopped.
John opened his frightened eyes as he nearly wet his pants form fear and right in front of him was the whisp-like form of his dead grandfather. It looked just like he was alive except he was see-through and he had no legs, just a tail-like thing that you would expect to see on Casper or something.
"AAAAUGUUGHGHHHH!!! No don't kill me! I'm sorry Grandpa, I'm sorry!" John screamed. "Don't hurt me! I didn't mean to do it!" he shouted at the spectre.
The door suddenly opened and in popped Zoe.
"Shut up loser, I'm trying to watch T.V. downstairs! God!" she said as she slammed the door again.
That's weird, John instantly though, the ghost was right in front of him plain as day. Couldn't she see him?
"Nope, she can't see me John! Can't hear me neither hee hee!" The ghost chuckled and then floated around the room in a circle.
"I'm back mah boy! Back from that horrible place! wooohoo, you did it boy! Thanks a million!" said the ghost as it flitted about the room looking at John's various collectibles and whatnot.
"Wow, so you're not mad that I brought you back Grandpa? I'm sorry if you are but I just had so much stuff to ask you about the magic stone..." John said.
"The Magic stone? You still have it with you? How long have you had it John?" the ghost asked as it flew right down parallel with John's face.
"Well I just got it like a day ago Grandpa but...well I've only had it for a day and I already don't know what to do with it" John said listlessly. "I may have already ruined my best friends life with it too.." he trailed off.
"Well...I know it was a lot of responsibility to be dropping on ya like that John mah boy, but ya see I couldn't let it go to someone who would just end up using it to get rich or hurt people. I felt you had a good head on ya when we spent time together when you were a kid, and besides I'm sure ya didn't 'ruin' thier life" the ghost said as it poked it's head into John's underwear drawer, as though searching for something.
"Hey get out of there!"
John dove for the ghost of his Grandpa but fell right through it as though he wasn't there. But as he touched the incorporeal body of the ghost, he saw in his mind a flash of something, almost like a memory. A woman standing in the doorway of an old house, watching as a young woman and a little boy walked up the porch stairs. She had a smile on her face as she reached out to the boys hands and shook them.
The ghost of John's Grandpa jerked its head around and looked at John. It suddenly looked kind of sad as John fell face first to the floor, dropping the stone as he did so.
"Ya know, I think maybe I was wrong to give you the stone so soon. You said yourself you made wrong with it and you can't even keep it in your hands for more than two minutes it seems. Perhaps I should take it back for another couple decades and then maybe you'll understand the responsibility it holds....or maybe I can teach you all about it." the ghost said wringing its ghostly hands through its ghostly beard.
"And maybe now I can finally get rid of this ghastly form while I'm at it" the ghost said with a gleeful look in it's eye.
"What do you mean grandpa?"
John got up and scratched his head as he turned just in time to see his Grandpa's ghost fly straight into his body.
