Athena clutched the stone in her hand. Maybe it would work or maybe it wouldn't. But she should still give it a chance. "I wish Sarah was my friend." This way, she thought, Sarah would be much more reasonable.
Athena held her breath, but it seemed she didn't need to for long. When the stone glowed, she smiled. And then when the changes started, she smiled even more.
She watched as Sarah's skin became pale, her hair went from blond to black (with blue highlights), and her outfit morphed until it became a long black lace dress. A dark blue corset appeared over her dress, and then black boots appeared on her feet.
Then Athena's memories shifted and she remembered Sarah as always being her friend.
It turned out the stone was malfunctioning after all. When Jon used it, it just didn't work, but when Athena used it, her memories changed with the new reality, even though she heard the wish. And the same happened with Jon and Sarah.
"Oh. Uh, sorry, Sarah," Jon said, embarrassed. "I'm not sure why I ..."
"Just get off me," she said.
Jon stood up and then helped Sarah to her feet.
"It's just that when Karyn disappeared, I just ..."
"It was an accident. I told you that," Sarah said.
"Sarah, give me the gemstone," Athena said.
"Why? I can't make another wish until tomorrow."
"I just want to be safe."
Sarah shrugged her shoulders, removed the necklace, and then gave it to Athena.
"Can we go now?" Jon asked. Being around so many witches was making him feel uneasy. Plus, he was eager to get Karyn back, if it was even possible.
"Sure," Athena said. Then she turned to Sarah. "See you later."
Sarah smiled. "Okay."
