The stone glowed, causing her to look away, and when the light dissipated, Karyn saw that nothing looked different, which is what she expected. Her new friend probably wouldn't be there with Jon and her. Tim and Pete weren't there, so why would her new friend have to be there too?
"I wonder who my new friend is?" she asked aloud.
Jon shrugged his shoulders.
At that moment, Karyn's cell phone rang. She took it out of her pocket and saw the name on the screen. It was Melissa Smith, one of the cheerleaders from the high school. What did she want?
"Hello?" Karyn asked.
"Karyn, you didn't cancel our date, did you? I thought we had all of this planned out. This was going to be the day that we came out of the closet. Karyn?"
Karyn stared, as the phone slipped out of her hand.
"I didn't say anything about wanting to be a lesbian," Karyn said, shocked at what the stone had done to her.
"But didn't you say you wanted a girlfriend? The stone probably turned you into a lesbian, to keep you female."
"I said girl friend. Not girlfriend. Oh my god, Jon. The stone didn't do what I intended, just what I said."
