There was a thump from inside the room, then the door peeked open a bit, revealing someone who definitely was NOT Jon.
It was Karyn.
Zoe then thought she may have had an idea of what had happened last night.
But then, as the door opened wider, it revealed, what seemed to Zoe, a completely different room. Sure it was sort of like Jon's, but all of the furniture was in different positions. The walls were also painted a different color; instead of navy blue, the room was painted a dark red. Zoe had no idea how they could have possibly managed to accomplish this.
Also, Jon didn't seem to be in his room.
She looked at Karyn with a quizzical look. "What's happened here?" she asked.
"Nothing." said Karyn quickly.
"Never mind," she sighed. Her brother and his "girlfriend" were just weird sometimes.
She wasn't going to ask. If Jon suddenly felt like redecorating his room overnight, it had nothing to do with her. Also if Karyn was over overnight, Zoe didn't need to ask questions (Although she did mind their loud talking at 2:00 AM).
She went back into her room before heading downstairs to eat breakfast. She poured herself cereal and joined her mother at the table. Zoe's mother was busily typing on a laptop and didn't even glance at Zoe as she sat down.
Karyn came down to the kitchen next. Zoe was confused. Where was Jon and why was Karyn nonchalantly walking into the kitchen like she belongs here? "Where's Jon?" Zoe asked, curious. Usually she didn't care where her brother was, but his "girlfriend" was in their house and he was nowhere to be seen, so she just thought it bizarre.
Karyn had a surprised look on her face.
Zoe's mother interjected "Who's Jon?"
"You're joking, right?" Zoe asked her mother, disbelieving.
"What do you mean?"
Zoe suspected that she was missing something.
Her mother was unfazed, going back to her typing, not particularly paying attention to their conversation.
"Hey. Come here for a minute." Karyn said to Zoe and beckoned her.
Zoe picked up her cereal bowl and followed Karyn upstairs.
"What's going on?" Zoe asked as they walked up the stairs.
Karyn entered Zoe's room. Zoe was too bewildered and curious about current events to object, so sat down cross-legged on her bed. Karyn closed the door and sat down on Zoe's desk chair.
After a moment of silence, Karyn started to speak. "You heard the wish last night, didn't you?"
