It didn't take long for Chris to get lost. He had no idea where the music department was. As a jock, he had no reason to go there.
"You're not lost, are you?" a girl asked, from behind him.
He turned around and saw a thin blond-haired girl. At first, he thought it was Sarah Taylor, but she looked way too geeky. No, it was Sarah's twin sister Jennifer. He didn't really know all that much about her. Only that she was a band geek. Just like me ... now, Chris thought.
"Actually, I am. Do you know where the music department is?" he asked her.
"You didn't get knocked over the head, did you?" she asked.
"Huh?"
"You're in the music department."
"In the hallway?"
"Whoa, someone really did do a number on you, didn't they. The music department is the south-eastern section of the school. There's the band room, the orchestra room and the choir room. Maybe when your head clears, you'll remember all of that."
"So, um. Where's the band room?" He kind of felt silly asking. He didn't know, obviously, but everyone else thought he did.
Jennifer stared at him, then pointed to a door about ten feet away. "Maybe you should get it looked at."
"Get what looked at?"
"Your head. You've got some serious memory problems," she said.
"I'll think about it." Chris and Jennifer walked in through the door and saw some people milling about. Others were sitting in their seats, waiting for the class to begin.
"Hey, Chris," a boy said, walking past.
"Hi?" he answered back. He had no idea who any of these people were. Well, that wasn't exactly true. He was a witness to several of them getting beat up by his friends, his jock friends. But he didn't know their names.
Chris looked at the band students and noticed something. "Oops, I forgot my instrument," he said out loud.
"You left it at home?" Jennifer asked, almost afraid.
"No. It's in my locker." He almost didn't bring it. It was only right before he left for school when he thought that he should bring it along. Just in case.
"You better go get it. You know how mad Mrs. Hitchcock gets when her students forget their instruments."
Actually, he didn't. But from the tone of Jennifer's voice, it didn't sound good.
"Okay, I'll be right back," he said, sprinting off back to his locker and then sprinting back with his instrument case in hand. By the time he got back, he was severely out of breath. His "new" body was so out of shape. He felt exhausted, even though he was only running for a grand total of 40 seconds or so.
When he entered the room again, he saw that everyone was seated, but still talking to each other. One seat was empty, so he assumed that that one was his. On his way to take his seat, several people said hi to him. He had no idea that he was this popular. Well, popular in the geek crowd, anyway. After he sat down, he waited for the teacher to show up and for the class to begin.
