Sarah pushed Zoe on the ground. "You did this to us!"
Zoe looked up with angry eyes. "I didn't do anything."
"Yeah, right. Somehow you turned us into freaks and made you and your friends popular."
Zoe got up off the ground and nearly got into Sarah's face. "Why would we change ourselves? We don't want to be popular."
"Who wouldn't want to be popular?" Sarah asked.
"Us," Zoe firmly answered. "Maybe it was you who changed us."
"What?" Sarah asked, shocked that that concept could even be considered. "Why would I change me and my friends into freaks?"
"I don't know," Zoe said. She really didn't. All the conclusions she came up with were suddenly feeling like she was grabbing at straws. "Maybe it's someone else."
"They would've had to use some pretty hefty magic," Athena said. "Nothing I know off hand could make all of this happen."
"Magic?" Tiffany asked. "That doesn't really exist."
Athena looked straight at her. "Yes. It does." Then she looked up and down Tiffany's body. "How do you like my clothes? Comfy enough for you?"
"These are yours?"
"Yeah."
"I looked through your wardrobe and found nothing but dresses that look like they came from the 18th century. What's the deal? The only normal thing I found was this T-shirt."
"I haven't worn that T-shirt in years. I thought I threw it away."
Sarah coughed. "We need to find out who did this."
"It might be someone who won't act like the rest of the world. You know, someone who knows who we're really supposed to be?" Tiffany suggested.
"That's a good thought," Zoe said. "Especially coming from an airhead."
"I'm not an airhead!" Tiffany said. But it was well-known around the school that Tiffany was 25% a bimbo and 75% a slut. Although now, in this new twisted world, Athena would be known as the airheaded slut.
"We need to keep from getting noticed," Zoe said, ignoring Tiffany. "We need to make sure that whoever changed us doesn't get tipped off that we're onto them. So, we'll all have to play our parts until we can fix this."
"What do you mean by play our parts?" Sarah asked. "I'm not staying like this. When I get home, I'm going out to buy new clothes and put all this Goth stuff behind me. No way am I gonna live my life as a freak, no matter how short a time it's gonna be."
"But no one will accept you as anything other than a Goth girl."
Sarah was about to say something, but got interrupted by Biff.
"Hey, baby," he said. "What are you doing way out here?"
Sarah felt relieved. Biff obviously remembered. In fact, he was probably just playing with her earlier. Of course it was all wishful thinking and when she turned around to look at him, she noticed that he wasn't even looking at her, but instead was looking at Zoe.
Biff bent down a bit and kissed Zoe on the lips. Zoe wasn't sure what to think. It was a nice kiss, but Biff was certainly not her type. "I can't wait for our date this weekend."
That's supposed to be our date, Sarah thought. She almost said it out loud, but stopped herself before she made the situation worse.
Biff walked away, back towards his football buddies.
"I can't go on a date with him," Zoe said.
"What happened to playing our parts?" Sarah asked, with a smirk.
Zoe was silent.
"If we're still not fixed by the weekend," Sarah said. "Then your date is the least of your worries."
"What do you mean?" Zelda asked.
"There's a game on Friday," Amber explained.
"Game?" Zelda asked.
Sarah stared at them, not believing that they didn't get it. "You're cheerleaders," she said to them.
"What?!" Sabrina said. "I'm no cheerleader."
"You switched with us," Sarah said. "That means that you're cheerleaders, not to mention the hottest and most popular girls at school. But I forgot, you don't care about popularity."
"But we don't know anything about cheerleading," Zelda said.
"You better start. There's cheerleading practice after school today," Amber said. "Didn't any of you see the uniform in your closet?"
Stephanie hesitantly rose her hand. Then Athena did. The others saw the uniforms too, but tried desperately to ignore them. Obviously that wasn't going to be possible.
"You only have three days to practice," Sarah said. In her mind, she pictured these five former-freaks trying to do somersaults and cheers and she laughed. It was nice that even in this upside-down situation, she could still laugh.
"It's not funny," Zoe said.
"Actually, it is," Sarah said, still laughing.
"Well, if we have to go to the game, then you'll have to go to Trevor's party."
"Who's Trevor?" Sarah asked, her laughing fit fading away. Zoe described him to her and Sarah said she knew him. "That's that freak boy that tried to talk to me earlier."
"Don't call him a freak," Zoe said, but Sarah ignored her.
"I'm not going to his party. I'm going to the game. Even if I can't participate in it, at least I can watch."
"No," Zoe said. "If we have to go to the game, then you're going to the party."
Sarah looked uneasily at her friends, then back at Zoe. "Fine. Whatever. But if we find whoever did this to us, we won't have to play our parts. Better sooner than later."
